“The mother has learned how to work with her body in labor and has physically prepared her birthing muscles. You, as the coach, have learned to understand the what, how, and why of labor. This will enable you to coach, guide, and encourage her in her ennobling work. You should be well acquainted in advance with her appearance in the various stages of labor. By being prepared for her objective appearance, not only will you feel serene and self-confident through familiarity, but you will be able to apply this knowledge by acting as her coach to actually see to it that things go smoothly. She, in turn, will feel secure in knowing that her ever-present coach not only loves her but knows what she is about and how to guide her.”
